Our programs and projects
The divers programs and projects of our non-governmental organization range from environmental campaigns to literacy programs at Engare Sero Ward. Our focus is to create a positive direct impact for our community: promoting economic participation, combating social inequality, female empowerment, better education, improving socio-economic infrastructure, improving access to water and sanitation (WASH), health initiatives, resource management and environmental protection.
Of central importance is our community empowerment attitude – we actively involve our residents in the development and implementation of our programs and projects. We are convinced that improvements in the various areas can only be achieved and maintained through a joint approach and thus a sustainable system can be created in the long term.
In order to be able to carry out our community projects successfully, we depend on financial support from governmental organizations, donations, funds, charities and private support. Please, get in contact with us for support ideas and funding options.
Educational program
Our community is still in need of sensitization and motivation on taking children to school. Illiteration is high and ignorance on the importance of education still gives us headaches.
We strive to even out the differences between high and low income of people when it comes to getting children to school. We will find a way to help those who cannot afford the cost of sending their children to school.
We want to create the necessary conditions for children to learn, so we look for donors, other development actors, people of goodwill, as well as individuals who can help these students attend school and/or sponsor school supplies.
Environmental conservation
Our organization is active in different areas for the conservation of the environment around Lake Natron. The management of natural resources such as mountains, forests, water sources, and minerals should be done in a way that benefits the community.
The importance of conserving these natural resources is clearly communicated to the community.
Gender based violence
We oppose any harm or suffering inflicted on a woman or girl, man or boy, that negatively affects the person's physical, sexual or psychological health, development or identity. It is usually caused by gender power differentials resulting from traditions and customs, as well as by the ignorance that prevails in the community.
We support and defend the rights of the weaker and resist the rampant sexual violence that exists in our pastoralist community. This ignorance must be eradicated in order to give our people, especially women, the chance for a just and better life.
Women empowerment generally
Women are mostly affected socially, politically, culturally and economically in our Maasai society. They have no say and are not allowed to make decisions. Thus, they remain voiceless in the community and even at the family level. Widows in particular are completely without means and rights. We will help these women to peacefully inherit and own what was produced and left to them by their partners.
Engishon Emaa Foundation is developing ways and means to redress inequalities. We also raise awareness among women to get involved in leadership positions and participate as activists in community development.
The equality and inclusion of women in the community will be a great blessing in the long run, which is why we are very committed and dedicated in this area.
Community empowerment
Our organization provides the Engaresero Ward community with resources and options for action so that they can apply self-empowerment strategies. In this way, they are sensitized and learn to improve themselves and their environment.
Empowering our community is a long process that can only take place within a collective framework, as this is the only way to achieve real change that lasts and sustainably improves the quality of life of our communitiy members.
